PAUL KOOPERMAN

Merry Thismas

Every year, Christmas arrives whether we are ready or not.

It comes wrapped in habit — the same food, the same conversations, the same rush to the finish line of the year. It’s familiar. Comforting. And sometimes, if we’re honest, a little automatic.

Let’s do something different this Christmas.

Let’s call it Thismas.

Thismas is a chance to be intentional. Purposeful. Discerning. Not just a day we survive, but a day we step into.

Thismas is about deciding — consciously — that this Christmas will be better. Kinder. More generous. More meaningful.

Not louder. Not busier. Just better.

A season of intention

Thismas asks a simple question: what if Christmas wasn’t just an ending, but a turning point?

A moment where we pause — really pause — and take stock of where we’ve been.

What’s worked.

What hasn’t.

What we’re proud of.

What we want to do differently.

Thismas is a milestone. A marker in the sand.

A chance to say: from here, things change.

Not overnight. Not perfectly. But deliberately.

Kindness as a choice

At the heart of Thismas is kindness — not the performative kind, but the practical and genuine kind.

It’s being a little more patient with the people who test us. A little more generous with our time, attention, and forgiveness. A little more aware of those who are doing it tough — quietly, invisibly, bravely.

Thismas reminds us that generosity isn’t only about what we give — it’s about how we show up.

Listening properly.

Checking in.

Letting people know they matter.

Especially now.

Giving, in all its forms

Yes, Thismas still has gifts.

But it also values the unseen ones.

Time.

Encouragement.

Belief.

Space.

Friendship.

It’s giving without expectation. Helping without being asked. Offering warmth in a world that often feels rushed and sharp.

Sometimes the greatest gift is simply saying:

I’m here. I see you. You’re not alone.

A line in the sand

Thismas is a line we draw — gently but clearly.

Behind us: what no longer serves us.

Ahead of us: what we are ready to grow into.

It’s permission to imagine a better life — not just for ourselves, but for our friends, families, colleagues, and communities.

A chance to plan differently.

To live more honestly.

To be braver about the joy we want and the values we stand for.

Everything good that’s coming

Thismas is hopeful.

It believes that love multiplies when shared. That happiness grows when we slow down enough to notice it. That small changes, chosen with care, can shape an entire year.

So this Christmas — this Thismas — let it be great.

Let it be full of love and warmth and laughter.

Let it be generous and gentle and real.

Let it be the moment we decide that what’s coming next will be even better.

Thismas isn’t just Christmas. It’s different. It marks a change. And is the beginning of everything good that’s on its way.
